FR8Star
Upgraded Shipment Experiences
FR8 offers a top-notch stack and intuitive interfaces to deliver an upgraded solution for shipment experiences in the freight industry.
Mission
FR8Star is a startup committed to improving the freight industry with cloud-based tools, shipment localization and scheduling optimization.
Impact
As it eases shipping, FR8Star leads the marketplace with a trustworthy network of transport companies to provide easy access to transporting companies and oversized loads.
Services
The company contacted us to build its next-gen application, enclosing full-stack development with a renewed front-end and updated UI.
Goal
FR8's goal was to create a new structure that would allow them to improve their clients’ global experience.
Story
The enterprise, founded in San Francisco back in 2025, had the main goal of reducing the inefficiencies that cost over $700B to the trucking market.
These inefficiencies led to the industry experiencing revenue losses, pollution increases and poor working conditions for its over 3.5M drivers.
A key component for FR8 to revert the situation was making fleet management hassle-free while allowing companies to know the available capacity of the freight truck route.
Further, FR8 allows the commercialization of this service to shippers to further boost innovative industry-related solutions.
Challenges
For our joint work, the venture had three main requests: a UI with reusable components, a UX-friendly application and integrations with both Google Maps and Street View.
The design request had a special focus on usability as the product aimed to show complex information and a wide variety of formats.
Another challenge was the company’s specific request to build the project with ReactJS, which was an emerging technology at the time.
Since FR8 is a SaaS, being cloud-connected was also key. Yet, its APIs had different speed rates— we needed to build intermediaries between the front, back-end and APIs
The main challenge for our team was to include every company-related item while highlighting the venture’s values and services in a next-gen digital product.
Worth Mentioning
While the trucking industry was suffering revenue losses in a $700B market, our first MVP led to Volkswagen investing $10M in that seed.
Technology
For state management, we combined React.js with MobX and developed a specific Node.js layer to ensure all elements were displayed at the same rate.
We harnessed AXIOS for call wrappers and AZURE’s cloud computing platform.
Our team also built a Material UI design to offer clean and intuitive user interactions, applying quick filters and search options for users to find information faster.
To improve responsiveness, we supported the structure with CSS and LOSTGRID.
This strategic approach also enhanced access to details, with screens divided into tables and rows and a fixed panel regardless of screen size.
With a fixed panel, information is easier for users to access at all times and it’s a more cohesive product with improved usability.
Some key changes included deleting the need for an edit mode to save data, easing the process of canceling editions and returning to the data’s original state.
Likewise, we added infinite scrolling to different tables within the app so users could navigate the product without the need to scroll down in order to get more info.
